Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor who was famous for her portrayal as the spirited attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. When she got married, she changed her name to Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since the age of five and was awarded a Best Actress award in a Maryland high school competition. In the years following her involvement in theater as well as with "The Washington Ballet Company" and "The Washington Ballet Company", she earned an acting degree at the New York University. Contractor Born from Mumbai in India she was raised in Nigeria from the time she was seven. She was already exposed to numerous travel experiences and different cultures at a very young age. She was a boarding student in London from seven to nine years of age, and then her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she lived the bulk of her youth and early adulthood. Contractor was a successful academic in Toronto and also trained as ballerina. She was enrolled in the Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is a specialized school for arts and sciences, in which she didn't just study theater but danced and also. Contractor began acting at age 16 and was a part of the theater for a decade after spending ten years of dancing. When she completed high school, she won a full Scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed an MA in Theatre, and also double majored with Psychology and Sociology. After one semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the production Pericles in the highly regarded, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the role of lead. The play received rave reviews and her performances in the 92 shows performed the play was voted as the best production by Canadian critics in 2002. Contractor accepted the invitation to join Stratford's Conservatory. Only eight men selected and four females accepted for a 20-week intensive course in classical theater. Contractor got a place in the next season of productions and was offered the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
